Projects for Schools and Colleges

Welcome to the EDT Educational Outreach pages. Throughout the year staff and students from the School of Engineering, Design & Technology are actively involved in an extensive programme of exciting projects.  These activities are designed to promote engineering and science in schools and colleges and have won various accolades in this regard.

Our Hovercraft Project has been cited as one of the best projects in the UK to promote engineering in schools (National Science & Engineering Week 2009).

The Outreach Team is regularly out and about on the road visiting schools and colleges up and down the country running its popular and interactive projects to inspire students to think about science and engineering as a positive career option.  The hands-on projects prove very popular with schools and colleges and encourage teambuilding and include presentations and discussions about the importance of science and engineering in our everyday lives.

Students work in teams to build anything from a fleet of hovercraft in a day to models of the London Eye out of paper and learn how to make biodiesel from used cooking oil and turn potatoes into bioplastic.  Take a look at photographs from some of our projects in the gallery below...
